Today, I’m beaming with pride about the beautiful work my colleagues are doing to help educate our friends across the entire University of Maryland’s College Park campus. Business acumen is so universal – people in any job can benefit from learning basic business skills like project management, customer service, negotiations, strategic thinking, and communications.
We have a program called the UMD-Smith Leadership Academy. This is the third year for the program, but the first time that it is open to all staff at College Park. It is highly competitive – only 30 spots! Today was the last information session and I attended it to write up a short news story to promote the June 30 application deadline.
There are a few reasons why I’m so excited about this program:
- It’s like a mini-MBA taught by some of the BEST PROFESSORS IN THE WORLD, including deans and department chairs!
- These professors are VOLUNTEERING their time for this program. Isn’t that so cool?
- It’s FREE. There is just a nominal fee to cover materials and food costs.
- You get to work on REAL-WORLD UMD CHALLENGES and make a major impact.
- You can MAKE NEW FRIENDS
- Create a LASTING NETWORK
