Damien Power, First Year MBA Candidate

Hello and welcome to The Smith Experience, a blog about the goings on at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. My name is Damien and I am a 28 year-old “first year” in the full time MBA program. Before coming to Smith, I was a communications specialist for a nonprofit organization in DC.

I am guessing, because you are reading this blog, that you are at least thinking about getting your MBA. If that is the case, then congratulations! The MBA is a versatile and highly competitive degree. People who hold MBA degrees can expect better jobs and better salaries over the course of their lives than non-MBAs, and they are often more satisfied with their lives as well.

Over the course of the next year, I will blog about life as a Smith student and relate my experiences to the year I spent preparing to enter the Smith MBA program. There is a lot to cover and, if you are anything like me, there will be a lot of questions. Please use this blog as a resource while you move toward an MBA, and ask questions in the comments section below.

I am already at work on a few different blog topics, including: national MBA conferences, a day in the life of a typical Smith Student, the academic rigor of the program, and (of course) paying for your education. Be sure to bookmark this page so that you can come back and read new posts.

In the mean time, I just wanted to introduce myself and welcome you to Smith. Thanks for checking us out!
