Ask Julie: Can I Get a GMAT/GRE Waiver?

Julie Dellinger - 2015 headshotI think I would be a good candidate for the GMAT/GRE waiver, but I’m not sure. Can I email you my background for you to review and tell me whether I can get the GMAT requirement waived?

Out of all the emails I receive and the questions I am asked, this is one that I see the most often!

We do offer a GMAT/GRE waiver for qualified candidates. However I can not determine if you are qualified by reading an email about your background.

We have a formalized GMAT/GRE review process and each waiver request is reviewed by our applications committee. Waivers may be considered if an applicant has demonstrated excellent quantitative, analytical and verbal skills through academic records and/or a successful career trajectory.

If you feel that you would be a good candidate for a GMAT/GRE waiver, you must submit a complete application and waiver request.

Please note: in order for the admissions committee to review your waiver request, all sections of the application must be complete. Most often I see that people are missing the recommendation or a TOEFL score (for international students)… so be sure to double-check you have completed the ENTIRE application as well as the waiver request section.

If you plan to submit a GMAT/GRE waiver request, do not wait until a deadline. Instead, submit your application once it is complete. The applications committee is reviewing GMAT/GRE waiver requests as they come in and letting the applicants know if they qualify. If you do not qualify for a waiver, this will give you time to study for the GMAT or GRE and submit your scores to complete your application.
