Subject: New ELMS Launching January 1, 2013

Dear Students,

You’ve likely heard the buzz about the coming of the University of Maryland’s next generation Enterprise Learning Management System (ELMS). The wait is almost over! On January 1, 2013, the university will officially launch the new ELMS, called Canvas.

So what happens next?

1. When your instructor publishes a course in which you are enrolled, you will receive an email inviting you to access the course in Canvas.

2. If you are comfortable jumping right into new things and learning as you go, you will likely figure out the next steps in Canvas easily. If you want more information to help learn your way around the system, visit the Student Support section of the ELMS website at after January 1 to watch videos, access short cheat sheets, or read user guides.

This launch culminates the work of numerous students, faculty, and staff who over the past two years participated in the selection process, piloted the new ELMS, and planned for the campus-wide use of Canvas. It has truly been a remarkable collaborative process, and the reactions of students and faculty who have been using Canvas have been extremely enthusiastic and positive.
