MOOCs: the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly (Friday, September 27th at Noon)

See below for detailed information about those events.
MOOCs: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly
When: Noon to 1 p.m., Friday, September 27, 2013
Where: Room 0120, Patuxent Building
In less than two years, MOOCs have gone from a nascent idea, to a possible component in President Obama’s plans to bring down the cost of college.  Smith School of Business professor Hank Lucas has taught a fully online course to part-time MBAs, a blended course to full-time students and a MOOC on Surviving Disruptive Technologies.  He will discuss his experiences with the MOOC and the potential of this new form of instruction.  Hank will argue that MOOCs and other forms of online education are fundamentally disruptive to the modern university and will discuss steps that a school should be taking now in response to this disruption.
This is a great opportunity for instructors to bring their ideas and questions to an open forum where we can discuss and learn from each other.
No registration is required. Light refreshments will be provided. This event is open for all faculty and staff who enjoy participating in a lively discussion.
