Monte Carlo 2016!

On February 20th, 2016 was our annual Monte Carlo Night! Now you might wonder what this is, and simply it is the ONE EVENT you do not want to miss at Smith. Originally described to me as MBA prom, it was so much more and quite the exquisite event. While yes everyone was wearing their finest dresses and tuxedo’s, it was so much more than a big reason to get all fancy and dressed up looking for a fun night out on the town.

First and foremost, the event continues to raise money for a scholarship fund created in the memory of two Part-Time Smith students who tragically lost their lives on 9/11 at the Pentagon. In addition to ticket sales proceeds going towards the fund, there was additional fundraising in the form of chips which could be purchased for some light hearted gambling! While, the chips could not be redeemed for prizes or cash, being MBA student’s, there were quite a few rivalries and bantering taking place at the blackjack and poker tables.

In addition to the fundraising component, it was a good way to celebrate the Smith community as more than 600 guests partook in the event. All the different branches of the Smith MBA program came together from the Part-Timers, to the EMBA’s to the Full-Time Students, to PHD’s and Alumnae to Faculty and Staff. In short, it was great to celebrate one of the pillars of the Smith school which is that of a very close and tightknit community!

Last, it should be mentioned that all in all it was a great event! From the food to the open bars, our organizers of the event did a great job and really made this the event of the year! Even better for me, it was a great way to celebrate me having locked down my summer internship. All the hard work in first semester, and January & February all paid off in the end. As a result, I am looking forward to Monte Carlo 2017, when my year will hopefully be able to make an impact on this signature event and help continue the traditions of the Smith community!
