Denzel Blount Doing Business in Singapore and Malaysia, Winter Break
My name is Denzel Blount, and I will be doing a short term study abroad in Singapore/Malaysia for the Winter 2014 term. I am currently a senior Accounting and Information Systems double major in the Smith School. During my free time, I dance with Dynamic Dance Hip-Hop Dance Team on campus and work as a member services representative at the Eppley Recreation Center. My first time abroad was during spring break of 2013 with another study abroad program to the United Arab Emirates. That trip definitely inspired me to explore more of the business cultures of other countries. Both Dubai and Singapore are interesting business cases for different reasons, so I am excited to compare, contrast, and explore!
Victoria Bowcutt The Global Business of Philanthropy – Thailand, Winter Break
Hello! My name is Tori and I am a sophomore accounting and information systems double major here in the Smith School. Within Smith I am a Fridays Ambassador, but the bulk of my extracurricular involvement lies elsewhere on campus where I work for the Department of Resident life as a Community Assistant, am a brother of the service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega, and actively participate in two honor societies. I have never been outside of the country before, so my extreme excitement for this trip is mixed with some nervousness. That being said, there is no one I would rather go with than the Smith School!

I love traveling, taking pictures of everything that I see, meeting new people, learning about their culture, and making long-term connections. Allison Collins Guanghua School of Management – China, Semester Program
Hello! My name is Allison Collins. I am a junior and a double major in International Business and Supply Chain Management at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. I am studying abroad at the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University in Beijing, China this spring. As a recent transfer student this is the first opportunity I have had to study abroad as well as my first trip out of the United States. Although I do not speak Chinese, I do have an Asian heritage and am excited to learn more about it. I am greatly looking forward to the adventure and new experiences that await me on the other side of the world!
Hi everyone! My name is Michele Correnti and I am a junior marketing major in the Robert H. Smith School of Business. On campus, I am an active sister of Alpha Chi Omega and CIVICUS alumni. Last winter I volunteered at an orphanage in Accra, Ghana and got my first taste of traveling abroad as an individual. This semester, I will be attending the American University of Rome. My father was born in Italy and I have always wanted to experience what life was like for him and my grandparents. I am so excited to immerse myself within my Italian heritage and cannot wait to share my experiences with you!
Ian Effron Accounting’s Future, Present, and Past – NYC, London, Florence, Winter Break
Hello everyone! My name is Ian Effron and I am a junior accounting major here at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. I plan on obtaining my CPA license post graduation and wish to be employed at a major public accounting firm, preferably in Philadelphia, Boston, or New York. I absolutely love traveling and immersing myself in different cultures, which is exactly why I will be studying abroad this coming winter. The destinations of my trip are New York, London, and Florence. I cannot begin to describe how excited I am to embark on this journey. The course is specifically designed for accounting majors, which was the main reason why I decided to apply for enrollment. In my free time I enjoy playing soccer, hanging out with friends, and watching my favorite movies. This trip cannot come soon enough. I am ready to make new friends and have a once in a lifetime experience. Hoping that you all will enjoy reading my future blog posts about my experiences in both Manhattan and Europe. Hi everyone! My name is John Esposito and this spring break I will be studying abroad in the United Arab Emirates. I am sophomore majoring in finance. This is the first time I have studied abroad, and only the second time I have been outside the United States. I am a member of the Junior Wall Street Fellows program, as well as Hinman CEOs. I look forward to experiencing a culture far different from my own, as I venture to the remarkable cities of Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Sherry Feng UAE Global Immersion Experience – United Arab Emirates, Spring Break
Hi! I am a senior double-majoring in Finance and International Business within the Smith School of Business. I am involved with the Quality Enhancement Systems & Teams (QUEST) Honors Program, and I was previously a TA for Business Statistics and the president of TerpWushu, a Chinese martial arts sports club on campus. I really enjoy learning about new cultures by taking arts & dance classes and trying different types of ethnic food. I travelled abroad to Hong Kong and China last year, and I hope to learn more about the business, culture, and traditional beliefs of Emiratis in the upcoming UAE/Dubai spring break study abroad trip.

Hi everyone! My name is Brittney Flack and I will be studying abroad in Thailand this winter. I am a senior, double majoring in finance and international business. I studied abroad with Smith last winter break, when I went to London and Paris for the British Design and Culture program. On campus, I serve as a Smith Ambassador as well as Fellows Ambassador, and work as a TA for an upper-level investments class. I am so excited to embark on a new journey and can’t wait to travel across the world!
Michelle Goliger Cass Business School – United Kingdom, Semester Exchange
Hi everyone! My name is Michelle Goliger, and I am a Junior in the Robert H. Smith School of Business, majoring in Marketing. I am also a student in the University Honors program. At UMD, I sing in an a cappella group, for which I recently finished my term as president, take private voice lessons at the on-campus Performing Arts Center, and participate in Greek life as a sister of the Sigma Delta Tau sorority. This semester, I will be continuing my studies as an exchange student at the Cass Business School, right in the heart of London. I can’t wait to share my adventures with all of you, as this will be my first trip to the United Kingdom! Stay tuned!
My name is Clara Huang and I am a junior Management major here at Smith, with an interest in non-profit management and philanthropy. I will be studying abroad at Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management in Belgium this spring! I’ve traveled independently, but I’m thrilled to be doing my first official study-abroad experience with the business school this semester. On campus I am a member of the OMSE Academic Honor Society, UMD Freethought, and Femmes de Chanson, UMD’s all-female classical a cappella group.
Hey! My name is Zoddy Imoisili and I am in my third year of being a Smith Student. I am double majoring Supply Chain Management and Marketing but also have interest in Social Value, Innovation and Philanthropy. On campus I am involved in a variety of things, including being a Resident Assistant as well as being on executive board for the Black Business Association and more recently SUSA and the Undergraduate Consulting Society. Though I have independently interned abroad the summer before my Junior year in the capital of Senegal, I have yet to travel with the Business School. I am excited to see the adventures and abundance of new experiences that I will gain when venturing off to Thailand in January of 2014. I will be studying the global business of philanthropy under Professor Cleveland and cannot to bring in the new year with a new country!
Hello! Hello! Christopher Lane speaking, well writing, and I have been dreaming to go to Thailand for years now. Why? I love exploring beautiful landscapes, learning about Buddhist cultures, and conveniently, Thailand and I have something in common, we are both known for smiling . . . a lot! I am so thankful to have the opportunity to join a group of Smith students on a journey to study the global business of philanthropy in Thailand. As far as my University journey goes, I am a junior marketing and theatre double major and devote most of my time to completing coursework, being the marketing chair for Terp Changemakers, treasurer for Kreativity, and the co-founder of Procity (a startup rewarding those who do-good for the community). Needless to say, I cannot wait to have a break. And what better way to take a break than to explore the country of my dreams! Thailand here I come, and you’re coming along with me!

My name is Charulata Lingam and I am a senior at the Robert H. Smith School of Business (RHS) at Shady Grove. I am double majoring in Marketing and International Business and have a strong interest in consulting. During my enrollment at RHS I have actively participated in several student organizations, often holding leadership positions. I am the founder and chair of the Smith Student Affairs Group and has been vital in the creation and execution of events and activities serving to help Smith students at Shady Grove develop and strengthen skills necessary for success in the workplace. Hello Everyone! My name is Justin Lui and I will be studying abroad in Singapore this winter. I am a senior double majoring in Marketing and Operations Management interested in sports management and business analytics. Outside the classroom I serve as the President of Terp Runners, the Maryland Cross Country & Track Club, and also work part-time at City Sports, a local sporting goods store. I’ve had the opportunity to intern in various marketing research and analyst positions at the Smith Behavioral Lab, Stanley Black & Decker, and Bookholders. My name is Elaine and I am a junior at the Robert H. Smith School of Business. I have also completed the Scholars Program for International Studies. I am pursuing a double major in International Business and German. I also speak Russian and study French. The past three semesters, I lived in the Language House, a foreign language living and learning program, in which residents work together to develop language proficiency. I am also involved with the on-campus radio station, WMUC. A couple summers ago, I had the opportunity to work for a company in Munich, Germany, which spurred my interest in business overseas. Hello everyone! My name is Lauren Powers and I am an aerospace engineering major at Maryland. This winter, I will be traveling to China with the QUEST honors program on my first study abroad experience. My excitement is through the roof! On campus, I am a research assistant at the university’s Space Systems Laboratory and a lead team member of the Near Space High Altitude Balloon Program. Outside of school, I also mentor grade school students in their engineering and science project pursuits and am pursuing my private pilots license. I am so excited to journey to China this winter and I eagerly await all of the adventures and opportunities it brings.

I love learning about other cultures and languages, so I’m super exited to travel abroad.

I am majoring in Marketing and working toward a minor in Spanish and a certificate in Latin American Studies. My interest in Latin America stems from an independent study program I did in Oaxaca, Mexico before coming to the University of Maryland. Now I have my sights set on my next big adventure, studying abroad in Melbourne, Australia! I am passionate about photography, fascinated by global art and cultures and consider myself a “foodie”. I am incredibly excited to spend a semester immersing myself in Australian culture, taking business courses at RMIT University and exploring the outback.
Hi everyone! My name is Leah Xu and I am a sophomore majoring in Computer Engineering. I am in the Quest Honors Program and I will be studying abroad in Hong Kong and Guangzhou this winter. I’ve lived in China before, but I’m very interested in exploring the southern cities since the country is so big that the cultures are different. I’m excited to travel and that my first trip will be with Quest and the Smith School. At Maryland, I conduct cybersecurity research and work for a small IT consulting company.
Hi everyone! My name is Haley Yazge and I will be studying abroad in Paris and Amsterdam in March 2014. I am a junior, majoring in marketing at the Smith School. My passion for marketing led me to join terpAMA here at Maryland. I am a huge DC sports fan (especially football and baseball) so in my free time I love going games and working out. My second greatest pastime other than sports is probably travel which is what inspired me to study abroad this coming spring. I am so excited to experience the French and Dutch cultures and learn more about international marketing. I cannot think of a better way to spend my Spring Break!
