Program Trips

If there is one thing that I strongly recommend doing during your time abroad, it is resisting the urge to take that nap and exploring your surroundings. In my first month I realized that I had been wasting so much time that I could have used to explore my new city and its surrounding areas. This leads me to my next point, the program will most likely offer trips for you and your friends to explore the city and surrounding areas for no extra cost to you. These trips are some of the best I have been on because they are planned for you by actual residents of Barcelona, so trust them, they know what they’re doing.

I was fortunate to be able to visit an area in Spain called Tarragona for a full day with my program. My friends and I signed up for the trip, met the bus in Placa Catalunya, and soon enough we were on our way to Tarragona, a beautiful coastal town littered with roman ruins and amazing unobstructed ocean views.

When we arrived we were greeted by one of the most beautiful sights I had ever seen. We stood atop a small hill, and below us ruins of the old Roman city that used to be Tarragona and just beyond that, a full 180-degree ocean view. To say the least, it was breathtaking. We were there for a walking tour of the city which would take us through all the ruins, city streets and finally to a fully paid lunch. The ruins were awesome and some of them looked like they were straight out of Game of Thrones, my favorite being and smaller coliseum. We were also led up a tower where we could see the entire city with a bird’s eye view and that really took the cake.

Overall on that trip I had plenty of fun, ate some fantastic local cuisine, saw some beautiful sights and learned a lot about the country I am able to study in this semester. I am already planning to do a weekend trip to Girona with my program in the coming weeks!
