Opportunity for 1-on-1 Tutoring with Latino Students in the DC Metro Area

Summary:

The Latino Student Fund runs a tutoring program to help Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade Latino students of the DC Metropolitan area to improve their academic skills. Students are paired up with a tutor that will work with them on English and math skills, homework and building their foundation of knowledge. The one-on-one nature of the program allows students and tutors to establish a strong relationship.

Permanent tutors are expected to attend 3-4 Saturday sessions per month.

Floater tutors fill in for absent permanent tutors and should attend the program 1-2 Saturdays/month.

Needed Skills: Reading Literacy, Writing & Tutoring Skills

Requirements & Commitments: Application and background check required. Orientation and training attendance required. Tutors volunteer minimum one (1) Saturday per month from October to June. No Spanish-speaking requirement.

When: Every Saturday (excluding major holidays) 9:30AM – 12:00PM between September 16, 2017 through May 26, 2018.

Volunteer Your Assistance to Fight Against Lung Cancer

Summary:

LUNGevity Foundation is seeking outgoing, enthusiastic, and motivated individuals to volunteer their time at the Breathe Deep Baltimore 5K Walk and Fun Run to End Lung Cancer on Saturday, September 16 at Orioles Park at Camden Yards. Breathe Deep Baltimore is a 5K walk and fun run that honors those affected by lung cancer, the nation’s number-one cancer killer. LUNGevity’s Breathe Deep events are held in communities across the country and annually raise $2 million for lung cancer research, education, and support.

Volunteer activities will include: event set-up and breakdown, registration, t-shirt distribution, course support, refreshments and informational table assistance.

Needed Skills: People skills, verbal/written communication skills, customer service skills

Requirements & Commitments: Brief volunteer training and five (5) hours of volunteer work on event day.
