I was BUZZed a few days ago when I logged into my Gmail account. I found myself in the middle of some kind of following spree and it took me a little while to figure out the whole setting. Being a mild user of social networking sites, I might take a bit longer than others to be an active BUZZer. The idea of connecting multiple sites as Picasa, Flickr, Google Reader and Twitter in an integrated way is handy if it does not add to all the confusion BUZZ already brings with it. There are a few privacy holes, on which the developers at Googleplex are working and have fixed to some extent. The one thing I liked about it though, is the feature that allows you to tag your location from your cell phone; you can find out who else is around and what they have to say about places nearby. But that again has privacy strings attached to it and is restricted to iPhones and Android phones only. I wonder why Google did not come up with a beta version first as it did for Gmail and other applications. I cannot say if BUZZ has got what it takes to compete with Facebook and others, but given Google’s large Gmail user base and its impressive tendency of coming up with innovative releases I am sure BUZZ is going to get louder.
