The speaker for the May event was Alex Attumalil, a current EMBA student at the Smith School of Business. Alex is a passionate security practitioner, responsible for the Global Information & Cyber Security Operations at Under Armour, the Baltimore based apparel brand. He manages the strategic risk-based deployment of global security controls while enabling frictionless business operations. A transformational leader, Alex has over 18 years of experience in developing, managing and maintaining information security programs in both the public and private sectors. In his professional career, Alex has taught as an adjunct professor, presented at various cyber conferences, and continues to serve as a technical consultant on various Customer Advisory Boards.
During his Fearless Speaker presentation, he discussed the importance of relationships in business, and building a personal. He also stressed that students should determine what they are good at and outsource the rest.
Alex shared that he was working on his MBA in order to learn about other areas of business, so that he could focus on being better at his current job and also determine if he should transition to a new functional area. He suggested that current students leverage the knowledge they’re gaining in their classes by going to the relevant individuals and their companies and discussing what they’re learning.
