Meet the 2017-2018 PTMBAA Board

The Part Time MBA Association (PTMBAA) is a representative, governing body for Part Time MBA students at the Smith school. The PTMBAA speaks as the coordinated voice of the students, serving as a liaison to the administration and faculty. The PTMBAA also works on behalf of the students to improve and provide feedback on the quality of education, academic support, and professional offerings they receive.

Ashley Duelks
President
Role. Serves as a voice and sounding board for Part-time MBA student concerns, working with University officials, MPO, and Centers as appropriate to represent students’ interest and ensure student’s voices are heard.

Goals. To ensure that current and future students have an enriching experience at Smith where they can flourish academically, socially and professionally. To improve the relationships between Smith and the greater business community to facilitate learning and professional opportunities for students as well as increase our presence in the local market. 

Chris DeWitt
Chief Financial Officer
Role. Manages the PTMBAA’s financial accounts and works closely with other members of the board, as well as with board members of other clubs, on financing co-sponsored events.

Goals. To work closely with the PTMBAA Board to develop and maintain a budget that will heighten the student experience, optimize return on investments, and represent the interests of the student body. 

Amy Tram
Chief Marketing & Communications Officer
Role. Maintains the PTMBAA’s social media outlets. Creates marketing materials for PTMBAA events and designs and manages the visual image and branding for the PTMBAA.

Goals. To keep the Smith community informed, engaged and connected to what is happening not only at all of our campuses but with others outside of Smith. To ensure that the PTMBAA brand is consistent across all marketing communications as well as with the Smith School and UMD brands.

Ryan Blaszczak
Chief Officer of Special Events
Role. Serves as the primary event planner as well as the PTMBAA’s liaison to other Smith programs for events; working with counterparts from other Smith School programs during the event planning process to facilitate collaborative events and networking. 

Goals. To engage Smith students so that there is more frequent interaction across all campuses. To ensure that the student body maximizes the opportunity to interact with their peers while having fun at the same time!

Jaclyn Walkins
Chief Professional Development Officer
Role. Ensures that students are connected to pertinent events, conferences, alumni, and resources that will support their career and general professional development. Works with OCS to plan professional development events.

Goals. To ensure part-time students have more professional development opportunities that are interesting and relevant. To share news and information about new professional development opportunities.

Tina DeFeo
Chief Community Development Officer
Role. Promotes the Smith School’s positive social impact and brand image in the surrounding community by providing community service opportunities for students to learn about, and serve with, new non-profit organizations in the DC/Baltimore area. Also leads the PTMBAA’s efforts for coordination of new student orientation in August.

Goals. To drive part-time student engagement so that students can make valuable connections and get the most out of their experience here, beginning with orientation.

Franklin Phillips
VP of Baltimore
Role. Keeps the board abreast with information pertaining to events and student concerns at the Baltimore campus. Manages the PTMBAA Board relationship with the Baltimore campus. Works with Track Reps to plan campus specific events.

Goals. To cultivate a unified Baltimore Campus where first, second and third year students come together for inter-cohort activities and events to foster a deeper sense of community.

Katie Kee
VP of Washington, DC 
Role. Keeps the board abreast with information pertaining to events and student concerns at the DC campus. Manages the PTMBAA Board relationship with the DC campus. Works with Track Reps to plan campus specific events.

Goals. To foster good relationships between students and the faculty as each class progresses through the business school. To promote integration between the various DC cohorts.

Rachel Carstens
VP of Shady Grove
Role. Keeps the board abreast with information pertaining to events and student concerns at the Shady Grove campus. Manages the PTMBAA Board relationship with the Shady Grove campus. Works with Track Reps to plan campus specific events.

Goals. To facilitate networking, skills building, and otherwise fun events that improve the campus experience. To actively communicate with students, faculty, and the administration to serve the needs of our campus community.

Britt Wright
Chief of Staff
Role. Conducts PTMBAA meetings in the absence of the President. Maintains all PTMBAA Board Information and Records. Works with the President on special projects as needed/appropriate.

Goals. To work with the Board so that we can connect the Smith Community in a creative, ethical manner to echo the University’s values.
