Magazine Mode; migraine days; a brief report on Weekend 31

See me? I’m in Magazine Mode. No matter what it looks like I’m doing, that’s not what I’m actually doing, because no matter what I appear to be doing I’m actually thinking about the magazine. I’m fretting about whether or not I’m going to make my deadlines; whether my writers are going to make their deadlines; whether I’m going to get all my reviews/approvals in time. I have 4 articles in various stages of completion sitting open in front of me right now. I have everyone else’s articles to edit, oh so many. I haven’t even started on the cover article. We still have photos to shoot. And there’s all this other minor-yet-crucial stuff, the masthead and table of contents page and the letters to the editor. The magazine is all-consuming. It requires every iota of processing power I possess.

And let’s be honest—I’m doing a blog post because I’m procrastinating. Sigh.

The good news is that schoolwork is slightly less demanding at the moment, though I do have homework for the Dreaded Data Modeling class and a paper for an upcoming mastery session. And another piece of good news–I survived Weekend 31 even with a migraine. That’s something I had been worried about since the program started. It’s difficult to concentrate on migraine days, what with that insistent throbbing pain, like being stabbed repeatedly in the face with an ice pick. I’d generally prefer to spend migraine days in a dark quiet room with a warm cloth on my head. But I managed. I even took the economics final–can’t guarantee that I was coherent, but it’s finished. And if I can do it on a migraine day, then I can do it whenever. 🙂

During Weekend 31 we had our last managerial economics course and data modeling and our second executive coaching session. Coaching  is one of the best things about this program, I think. I’m finding it really challenging but also rewarding. I should write about that soon. But for now, back to work. Sigh.

“Dreaded” Data Modeling class? That was one of the classes that I enjoyed the most (but I may have been an outlier). I just stumbled on this blog; which cohort are you? Greetings from cohort 5, and all the best with the next 8 weeks — I’ll see you at the VC fair.

Greetings back from cohort 12!

I dread data modeling because I’m a big chicken when it comes to the quant classes. Probability and statistics are both totally new subjects for me. Glad to hear you enjoyed it, though; I know that many of my classmates from IT backgrounds are also finding it enjoyable.

Thanks for stopping by. Look forward to meeting you at the VC fair!
